It is very important to learn, respect and share the history of where we live to our future generations. Many many years ago in the 1800’s in America, when our grandparents were not even born, some people were treated very unfairly. They were called slaves, and they were forced to do laborious work without any pay. Until the President of the United States of that time, Abraham Lincoln, made a joyful announcement to abolish slavery.
As it was a screen-free era there were no mobile phones, televisions or computers to spread this good news faster. Some of the slaves who lived far away in Texas, did not hear about this good news for two years and they continued to work. Until a good lady named General Gordon Granger, along with a group of soldiers reached Texas and spread this joyful news. Imagine the joy, excitement and big smiles on the faces of those people.
